Event Details

Join us as we decorate sugar skulls to celebrate Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead. The Day of the Dead is celebrated on November 1 and November 2 throughout Mexico to remember friends and family members who have died.

Many cultures have similar observances to mark the passing of loved ones but this observance has become very well-known by families creating small shrines to commemorate deceased family members and the making of candy skulls. In Mexico the holiday is called Dia de los Muertos. In Brazil it is Dia de los Finados and in Bolivia it is called Dia de los Riatitas. Learn about these celebrations and join us in making bright paper crafts and decorating beautiful skulls to honor family members who have died.

These Day of the Dead Sugar Skulls are made from sugar, meringue powder, and water; they will be decorated with colored royal icing and/or food markers.  All materials are generously provided by the Friends of the Keene Public Library, but supplies are limited. The program will start at 4 p.m., and will run until 6 p.m. or until supplies run out.
