Event Details

Butterfly Heroes takes a look at interesting features of local butterflies, and how to bring them into our back yards. Children learn how to maintain butterfly habitat, including growing butterfly gardens. They will learn about wing symmetry, defense mechanisms, and interesting butterfly behavior. Participants will take a look at the amazing Monarch migration to Mexico, with photos of Monarch butterflies clustering by the thousands in Oyamel Fir trees in the mountains of Michoacan. The program concludes with a wonderful butterfly tee shirt craft. Please bring a t shirt craft using a combination of Rit fabric dye sprays, plants, and butterfly cut-outs. Please bring your own t shirt to paint.

Jerry Schneider has performed nature programs for the past ten years throughout the Northeast, the Midwest, and along the Atlantic Seaboard. Mr. Schneider, a former teacher and children's librarian, is the inventor of an award winning butterfly board game. Most recently, he was on the steering committee of the Vermont Butterfly atlas Project, a 5 year study of butterfly populations in Vermont.

Terrific Tuesdays takes place each Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. during our summer reading program. Each week there is a different special event designed for kids ages five and up. Younger children are welcome to attend with an adult.
