Terrific Tuesdays:Monkey Superheroes from the Myths of India and China

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Keene Public Library
Heberton Hall

Event Details

Long before Superman was "faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive," and "able to leap tall buildings at a single bound," some of the world's first superheroes were... monkeys! Hanuman, the Monkey General who helps the hero of the Indian epic the Ramayana rescue his wife from the clutches of a demon, is so strong that he can carry a Himalayan peak as he leaps through the air. Meanwhile in China, the mischievous Monkey King (who can fly on clouds and multiply himself at will) drives the Immortals crazy until he is convinced to use his powers for good. Learn the stories of some of these earliest "superheroes," handle artifacts related to their legends from the Mariposa Museum and World Culture Center's collection, and learn to behave like one of Hanuman's soldiers as we practice a few moves from the Cambodian Monkey Dance!

Terrific Tuesdays takes place each Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. during our summer reading program. Each week there is a different special event designed for kids ages five and up. Younger children are welcome to attend with an adult.
