The film, set in suburban Los Angeles, unfolds in the summer of 1962. Seeking desperately to fit in, Scotty Smalls is the new kid in the neighborhood. He would be welcomed on the local eight player baseball team that practices every day. Smalls however, is incapable of playing baseball. Over the summer as Small's baseball skills improve, the group of boys come together and bond while having adventures like rescuing their baseball from the neighbor's backyard where "the beast" resides.
